Over The Past Twenty Years Research On Male Image In Chinese Anthropology Documentary Film

Anthropology is a newly developing interdisciplinary subject. The Research on anthropological documentary generally focus on the arrangement of the historical development or the explanation of the concepts, rarely analyze the characters systematically, overall and deeply in them. However the systematic analysis and conclude of the characters would offer the noticeable reference of the influence on the creation concept change about the anthropological documentary of the creator.The study of the characters in documentary is still the vacancy in this field. This article draws on the current research about female character in the media, arranges the concepts of anthropological documentary systematically, adopts the content research methods, starts from the viewpoint of social gender, analyzes the features of various male characters in the eight well-known and typical works in numerous anthropological documentaries since the1990s and strives to find the origin of the characters.Research discovers that the male character is gradually changing from the traditional pattern with the development and the progress of the times and societies which is no longer the brave and tough pillar of the family, and develops multiply instead of simply. They are allowed to weep or have inner conflict and bitterness before cameras. Male becomes more real and complete as a "human being". The change of the male character is the result of combined action of manifold elements which conclude the catalysis of the age background as well as the influence of the culture, economy and the rise of feminist movement. With the market development, anthropological documentary creators increasingly attach importance to the artistic value and aesthetic function of the works, on the condition of respecting the truth, the documentary creators focus on the creation guided by the aesthetic view, pay more and more attention on the aesthetic value when presenting the characters, are inclined to depict the inner world and show more underneath emotion of the characters with more film and television methods instead of just mould the masculine image in the past, and pursuit the aesthetic significance on psychological and image field more deeply.As the main body of the article, the four parts respectively explain the anthropology and anthropological documentary elaborately and lay stress on a more detailed explanation on the aesthetic significance of the documentary works.
