Dream of Red Mansions is one of the four greatest classical literatures of ancientChina. It has been made into TV series twice. First and also known as the originalwas directed by Wang Fu Lin in1987; and a newer version was directed by Li ShaoHong in2010. Similarly, the music part has been the top priority for both TV series.As a graduate of National Vocal Performance, the author has selected these two TVseries’ theme songs and the songs of the main characters as the object of study.Hoping by doing a comparative research on the two different versions of the music;looking at the characters in Dream of Red Mansions from different angles and levels;and rise the music from "A Dream of Red Mansions" to an aesthetic level of inquiry,it would eventually allow other artists to grasp more fully of the various characters ofthe Dream of Red Mansions, thus giving them a much better understanding andinterpretation of the characteristics of the music from various versions of Dream ofRed Mansions music.
