Judgment of intentionality has always been a controversial topic that draws a lotof attention. In daily life, people’s response is directly influenced by their judgment ofintentionality. Knobe effect found by Knobe(2003) demonstrated the impact of theeffect of moral valence on judgment of intentionality. It made people realized thecomplexity of the internal intentionality judgment mechanism and the instability ofall the relevant factors. Knobe effect is a phenomenon in which behavioral valencemight influence judgment of intentionality. When side effect is good in terms ofmorality, people tend to regard doers of the action as unintentional; and intentionalwhen it is regarded as bad. Present researches have proved the stability andprevalence of this phenomenon. To have a deeper understanding of its internalmechanism and relevant factors, this paper has introduced attribution style with twoexperiments to look into differences of Knobe effect from different attribution stylesand the influences of different attribution styles on Knobe effect from differentbehavioral perspectives.Research One has tested the intercultural consistency of Knobe effect and theinfluence of different attribution styles on it. In judging the results, remarkableindividual differences exist between passive conditions and active ones. Moreover, this is great difference in judgment of intentionality between men and women.Compared with individuals that possess internal attribution styles, those possessexternal attribution styles have more obvious preferences in judgment of individualintentionality.Research Two has examined the differences of Knobe effect from differentbehavioral perspectives-the doer-observer perspective. Based on this, a design of2(attribution stytle)×2(behavioral perspective)×2(side-effect situation)hasanalyzed the relativity between attribution style and behavioral perspective onjudgment of intentionality and the internal mechanism of intentionality judgment. Theresults show that attribution style and behavioral perspective have significant influence on intentionality judgment and there is interaction between them.
