"The Singing Theory", the first literature in Chinese history to systematicallyexplore and research on the theory of singing, was written by Yan Nan Zhi An in theearly stage of Yuan Dynasty, based on his summary on the basis of singing in Song,Jin and Yuan dynasty. As the pioneer in its territory,"The Singing Theory" holds agreat milestone status. Some of the theories from this book still have tremendousinfluences on today’s Chinese vocal singing activities. And in the field ofcontemporary national vocal music art, Professor Jin Tielin is no doubt one of thegreatest educators to date. His scientific work on the theory of singing throughinnovative and practical teaching practices has mentored a large number of excellentartists, and made a great contribution to the development of China’s national vocalmusic. The author has selected “the Singing Theory" and Jin Tielin’s vocal musictheory as the subject of study, hoping by comparing the ancient and the modernliteratures, we could find some similarities as well as different characteristics in thevocal music theory filed. Combined with the author’s own singing experience, thepaper will analyze specific songs based on both ancient and modern singing theories,hoping to provide a reference for the development of Chinese vocal music.
