Many phenomenon show that photojournalist have been caught in a bind nowadays, including survival crisis, moral crisis and trust crisis. If put the problems attributed to birth of the Digital Photography which is just a surface stuff, it would not solve the crises. The essay tries to reveal the essence of news photographers in angle of the relationship between photography and photographers from the aspects of nature of photography, in order to seek the key of all the problems and make judgment on their development trend.Proceeding from the specialty of photography, the author conducts in-depth analysis about its nature by building experiment models, which leads to the conclusion that camera and photographer can be completely separated during the process of photography. In addition, the author further analyzes in detail the position of the photographer during the process of photography. In line with the involvement or absence of photographer’s subjective awareness, photography can be divided into two different types with totally different roles, namely "tool representation" and "language expression". Different functions of these two types of photography are covered in this paper. By applying the approved theory, the author examines and combs the relations between photography and authenticity, photography and art, photography and technology from the perspective of the "photographer" respectively, and comes to the conclusion that the authenticity of photography is the demonstration of the role of "tool representation" in the form of equipment recording. The recording process itself rejects the involvement of photographer while the development of equipment has been reducing such involvement continuously.On the basis of running through the theories of photography thoroughly, the author conducts study about news photography exhibition, and understands that news photography aims at news while with photography as its means. Considering news has requirements on authenticity and objectivity, the photography in the news photography must and can only be the "tool representation". In this case, the author also discuss about the standards of news photography.After understanding the theory of news photography, the author segments the professional composition of photojournalists into photographic equipment, photographic skills and the identity of the photographer. Firstly, the author compares the characteristics of the work of photographers and that of word reporters. Secondly, according to the fact that "tool representation" rejects the photographer theoretically, the author explores the relations between photojournalists and news spot, and finds that the situation of photojournalists is really awkward since they are on the news spot and mingled with news reality and news images. Furthermore, the analysis shows that, if the subjectivity of photojournalists as human is enlarged, it will impose negative impact on news report.The author further explores the photographic equipment and skills after analyzing the factor of "photographer" during the news photographic reporting process. Proceeding from the entire development history of news photography, the author finds perfect parallelism of its emergence and development in the history of technology. The fact that equipment and skills complement each other in living examples not only proves the relation between photography and technology in the theoretical deduction, but also reveals a phenomenon:The development of technology facilitates the development of news photography industry, makes the work of photojournalists more convenient and reduces the dependence over "photographer" by news photography in a continuous manner.According to the fact that technology development further promotes news photography and less relies on photojournalists, the author concludes two trends in the field of news photography. First, along with the popularity of photography, everyone is able to become a photojournalist. Second, with the improved degree of automation, news photographic equipment with no need of the "photographer" is bound to be developed. By analyzing the inevitability and advantages of the two trends and enumerating the existing situations of photojournalists, the author arrives at the conclusion that the post-photojournalists era when news photography continues to prosper while professional photojournalists gradually fade out from the arena of history is coming.
