There are almost no theories for translating movies and TV series. However, we can always cultivate the virgin lands with the help of learned elders. So I borrowed some theories from other fields of studies to discuss the paradox between the brevity and the readability of the subtitles. First, I explained the origin of the paradox and tried to set some ground rules for subtitle making by using the scarcity theory from economics. Then I revealed the fact that a translator should always pay attention to the gray entropy of the subtitles for the sake of the audience by applying the theories of information entropy and gray entropy from information science. And in the end, I chose the game theory as my methodology to alleviate the paradox so that the translator can demonstrate his literary talent while the audience can savor the movies without any difficulties.
