Ming And Qing Dynasties Li Panlong Criticism Research

According to the development of literary history, Li Pan-long receiving the criticisms and the interpretations during life and after death could be divided into four periods:Jiajing and Wanli period of Ming Dynasty, late Ming Dynasty, late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, after mid-Qing Dynasty. During Jiajing and Wanli period of Ming Dynasty, although the members of later Seven Poets sometimes showed criticism attitude, in generally praised and supported Li Pan-long’s literary theories. The contradiction between Xie Zhen and Li Pan-long led to Li Pan-long’s image and moral damages. Hu Ying-lin and Tu Long who are praised by Wang Shi-zhen tried to boost Wang Shi-zhen’s prestige and belittle Li Pan-long, negating Li Pan-long’s literary value. Tang Song literature association, Xu Wei and Tang Xian-zu also disagreed with the literary view of Revival literature association, and questioned Li Pan-long’s literary theories and writings. The successive rise of Gong An literature association and Jing Ling literature association in Wan Li period brought Li Pan-long into disrepute, but at last they showed mild criticism attitudes. During late Ming period, Xu Xue-yi and Yun Jian literature association supported Li Pan-long and Revival literature association again, this led to comprehensive criticisms from Qian Qian-yi. Qian Qian-yi’s attitudes not only affected Yu Shan literature association and Wu Qiao deeply, but also became the most important content in history of criticism about Li Pan-long. As a highly anticipated criticism object, Li Pan-long has been discussed in debate about poetry of Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty in late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. Three outstanding thinkers in early Qing Dynasty and their disciples used a historical point of view interpret significance of Li Pan-long and Revival literature association in literary and cultural field. In early Qing Dynasty period, whether famous in criticism field as Ye Xie and Zhu Yi-zun, or highly regarded in poetry composition field as Wang Shi-zhen, they all gave Li Pan-long necessary attentions. This made his poetry creation and theoretical quality getting much more detailed analysis. In mid-Qing Dynasty, criticism content from Shen De-qian and Yuan Mei were milder, in order not to repeat previous interpretations. After Yong Zheng and Qian Long period, summarizing existing results became prominent characteristics. The attention and enthusiasm of critics for Li Pan-long eventually disappeared.
