In the discourse of traditional chinese aesthetics, image is one of the core category. Animal imagery has an important position in all the image groups.The disposal of the thinking of totem worship, the ancient Ba and Shu areas had a bird totem, the cuckoo totemism has an important position. With the development of the animal totem worship, and gradually dropped from the worship of the status of the status of the literature, many have become the prototype model of literary images, the cuckoo is one of them. As one of the important animal imagery in the chinese literature, the cuckoo image from the original totem to later become a classic image in the literature, this process has a clear development context. During the Han Dynasty the connotation of cuckoo was sadness, Tang Dynasty cuckoo had love connotation and homesickness connotation. with the changes in social values and background, cuckoo image appears in the poetry of the Song Dynasty, and is mainly used to express the meaning of love.Love, homesickness, plaintiveness, and other factors combine the cuckoo imagery in chinese literature. All the constituent elements emerge under the domination of the original thinking of the ancestors. The emergence of love factor has a direct relationship with Du Yu’s wife,"Julius", and the abdication of Du Yu. The homesickness factor shows the immortality of the soul and the idea of the " ancestral spirits bird" of ancestors. Ba and Shu areas of this "ancestral spirits bird" concept, realized as the cuckoo "Better go back" sounds and habitats of nine birds in bronze tree, therefore literature cuckoo of homesickness image ingradually formed in the process of the spread. The last factor plaintiveness is formed according with Du Yu’s throne was taken away, and the "collective representation" of primitive people. Du Yu certainly lost the throne and slander heart full of bitterness, this resentment expressed by the cuckoo. Future generations is a combination of sounds to express t heir sad feelings.
