V.S.Naipaul is an Indian-English immigration writer who was born in Trinidad. He has published over30books since his first novel published in1957. The forms of his writing are various which including novel, essay, travels, journal, history study and so on, the contents of his works full of rich autobiography, he is always caring about history, fate and people in the third-world country in his travelling way. After winning The Nobel Prize in Literature in2001, Naipaul has been a focus of academic in China.Naipaul’s culture identity is very complex, he’s an outstanding writer in post-colony time, also a typical case in the research of post-colony literary criticism. In literary globalization area, people with multiple civilization background are keeping an eye on his identity belonging, Naipaul finished his "Indian Trilogy" with the purpose of seeking roots in travelling way, which communicating his complex feelings to India. This paper is mainly about "Indian Trilogy", digging Naipaul’s option for India, summarizing his progress, exploring the conscious of his identity belonging.This paper divided into four parts.Chapter One discusses the reason of his finding center activity form his three novels The Mystic Masseur, Miguer Street, A House for Mr.Biswas in early period. This is a start for next discussion. Trinidad is a colony country of culture-medley, at the edge of world. People live here are unconscious, kinds of struggle are ending in failure. After realizing the edge, Naipaul came into being a sense of crises for his identity. He discontented the situation of Trinidad, so he wanted to escape. Naipaul’s education experience was all English, his trending in culture was English too. When he arrived England, he didn’t find the culture center, but still in the edge. The awkward of situation made his decision to English culture, which was neither closing, nor rejecting. Lost in English, so Naipaul had to concerning his mother-land India. Chapter Two analysis the Indian writing in "Indian Trilogy". The contents are including the describe for Indian religion faith, caste system, social life, Gandhism, national consciousness and so on. Lies in the distinguish of describe is Naipaul’s personal emotion. There are scenes of devastation meeting the eye everywhere in An Area of Darkness, in his view, India is a represent of backward and privation. The second book India:A wounded Civilization discuss the deep reasons of the darkness in Indian society, history, political, and religion. India:A Million Mutinies Now starts with the form of interview, it describe the different people in all kinds of sections, positions and occupations, which shows us a seven lives many faces in India society. This time, his writing attitude is no longer acerbity, but adding some optimistic.Chapter Three particular emphasis on discriminating the truth and untruth in Naipaul’s writing about India, and summarizing the progress of author’s attitude about India. When he first time to India, he can’t remove the view of imperialism, there are misunderstanding in his writing which is consisted by his imagination and fabrication. But with the thinking all the time and travelling so long, Naipaul changed the appearance of attitude about India by degrees. His writing reduced the partly true area, on the other hand, there were more comprehend and acceptance parts. The whole chapter analysis the different describing about Indian parts of discrimination and sympathy.Chapter Four mainly indicates the roots of India means a lot to Naipaul. For India culture he took a rebellion and eventually coexist attitude, identity’s construction depends on cultural identity in multicultural mix into one part. This mimicry is close to his personal experience. He writes in travlling, thinks in writing. Naipaul in writing thinking, finally he accpets Indian culture.His option is not only the inevitable choice of individual identity in post-colonial immigrant time, but also multicultural cross-border off-court the ultimate survival strategies.
