Robert Schumann is an outstanding composer and music critic in19thcentury of the Romantic era. Regarded as an innovator ofthe Romantic music,Schumann made great contribution to thedevelopment of the Romantic music in19thcentury. Schumannˊs piano works,which takes an important part in his musiccomposition, mainly reflect his composing style andphilosophy.Schumann breaks the traditional composing form andtechnique,and takes the expression of personal emotion as musiccontent of his piano works.Schumannˊs Fantasy in C major Op.17was such an example of his piano composition with most passionand deep feelings.This three-parts fantasy was considered asa milestone in piano literature in19thcentury.This thesis takes Schumannˊs Fantasy in C major Op.17asresearching object,and aims to make comprehensive form andperformance research on this fantasy.This article is mainlydivided into three chapters.The first chapter makes a general statement of Schumannˊs piano compositions,and it alsoincludes the general features of keyboard fantasy.The secondchapter mainly analyses the form and text of SchumannˊsFantasy in C major Op.17through fiveaspects(structure,theme,harmony andtonality,rhythm,polyphonic).The third chapter discusses theperformance and interpretation of Schumannˊs Fantasy in Cmajor Op.17.
