Since the new century, the process of urbanization in China is intensified, the closed rural living space has been broken by the wave of modernization, and the exchange between the urban and rural areas becomes more and more common. As a result, the social structure and the life-style in rural areas have been changing quietly. The Father, as a representative of traditional culture, is facing the multiple dialogues not only between the modern and the traditional culture, but also between the urban and the rural culture, and is becoming the important characters in rural TV series. By the method of text analysis and comparative study, this paper, which is divided into five chapters, focuses on the father image of the next seven rural TV series, such as<Liu Laogen I>(2002)、<Our father>(2004)、<Ma Dashuai Ⅰ>(2004)、<The Story of Xi Gentian Ⅰ>(2007)、<Depurative Living>(2008)、<Niu Tiehan and his children>(2010)、<The Father Chooses the City only>(2012) and so on.The introduction part defines the rural teleplay and the father image in this article, summarizes the current research status of the rural teleplay and the father image, and finds that there is no scholar analyzing the change of rural culture in the wave of urbanization by focusing on the father image in the rural teleplays. The first chapter describes the creation overview of the rural teleplays in the new century, presents the award-winning rural teleplays in the recent years, and analyzes the diverse creation background of rural teleplays. From the dimension of the domestic space, the second chapter analyzes the father-son relationship, the father-daughter relationship and the father-mother relationship, finding the decline and decay of father’s authority. From the dimension of the social space, the third chapter analyzes the father image as village cadres, businessmen and ordinary villagers respectively, and finds that the traditional culture which is represented by the father has given way to the modern culture which is represented by the son generation. From the dimension of the urban space, the forth chapter analyzes the father image of the one who goes into town, and finds the rejection and acceptance of the urban culture toward the traditional culture which represented by the rural father. From the dimension of the urban-rural culture, the fifth chapters analyzes the cultural characteristic of the traditional father image which is represented by Mao Yuan in the rural teleplay called<Fence·Woman and Dog>, the father image of who live in rural areas, and the father image of who swing between the city and the countryside. As a result, we find that the ordinary rural fathers who go into town are marginalized by the urban and rural areas both. In the end, this paper reflects the profound changes shown on the father image of rural areas in the new round of urbanization in China.
