Romeo and Juliet, Op.75, a piano divertimento by Sergei Prokofiev, was adaptedfrom its synonymous ballet. The composition completed in Prokofiev’s mature period,is an extraordinary work which epitomizes the style of his music composition. Thisthesis thoroughly analyses the background of the composing and the music body,identifies Prokofiev’s five creation characteristics (classical, innovation, lyricism,mobility, banter) and the ethnic style in Russian music. In order to provide referencefor performers in future, detailed analysis and summary regarding the technicalimportance and difficulty of the divertimento is carried through by the author throughher own performance practice.This paper is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, the author firstlydivided into three period introduces the representative works of the composer’s lifeand creative characteristics of each period, at the same time of each period to comb.Secondly, the author of the same name "Romeo and Juliet" dance with the ballet, andthe adapted piano divertimento is briefly introduced, including the process of creation,on time, music and script corresponding and external review etc..In the secondchapter, the author studied the music ontology this divertimento ten poems. The melody, rhythm, strength, speed, musical form, harmony and tonality, on each of thefirst works of creation techniques are analyzed, and the corresponding examples toprove.In the third chapter, the author on the basis of each song title and thecorresponding script, ten pieces into the character description, scene description andcomprehensive description of the three class. At the same time, every class, everysong played in heavy, difficulty is summarized, prompting from the touch keys, relax,fingering and pedal, gives the corresponding performance.
