Chou Wen-chung(1923-), who is the world-famous Chinese-American composer.His music creation has very high evaluation in the international music industry. Hetakes concrete actions to introduce the idea of western integration into the musiccreation.He explores a new road which combines Chinese traditional music culturewith western modern composition techniques. Some music critics even think that hecan be mentioned in the same breath with Bartok. There are some poetic inherent inhis musical works. Even, the works have a tremendous impact on the modern musiccreation.This article selects three of the most important works of Mr. Chou Wen-chung inhis early music creation period:<Landscapes><And the Fallen Petals><TheWillows are New> as the objects of study. This three musical works write accordingto the famous Chinese ancient poetry, and distinctively reflect the the major creativethinking in the the Chou Wen-chung early music creation, also the composingmethods, and the exploring to the techniques of the composing characteristics. Theauthor takes three scores of early music works and audio data of Chou Wen-chung asthe main research contents, through the analysis of its musical form, harmony, tonetonality, with detailed description of the characteristics of the sound techniques of theChou Wen-chung early music creation, and aiming to analyze the use of the earlyworks of the Pentatonic ethnic harmony techniques as well as other characteristics ofcompositional techniques, and sound techniques of his works in the West. At the sametime, I want to try to reveal the fusion factors compared with Western compositionaltechniques which are revealed, and to explore the music creation techniques ofWestern integration of Mr. Chou Wen-chung.This article is divided into seven parts as a whole, included the introduction, fivechapters and epilogue. The introductory section is divided into two parts,this papermainly describes the significance of the topic, research status and research methods. The first chapter mainly describes the life and musical achievements of the ChouWen-chung, including the introduction of Chou Wen-chung, major creative concepts,and the overview of the content and musical form of the three musical works. Thesecond chapter describes in detailed analysis the material a composer used in threemusical works chord----Characteristic intervals, the Pentatonic chords and theappliation of the chords sound. The third chapter is the analysis of the three works inthe five-tone style mode, tonality wandering, the tonality conversion and worksbehind the Western tonal factors. The author summarizes the the Chou Wen-chungthree early works harmonies techniques as well as termination type morphology in thethe fourth chapter. Chapter Five summaries and combines Chou Wen-chung in theworks of early music re-merger thought embodied in the works. The author found thatthere has relatively few studies of the sound techniques of Chou Wen-chung in hisearly creation in the study and combing the mastered reference information, andmostly are textual description. I hope that through the analysis of his works, and moredetailed discussion of the the Chou Wen-chung early music creation and soundcharacteristics, Chou Wen-chung in-depth research for future scholars of little help.
