Dandi's "French Folk Symphony" Harmony Research

Vincent dandy is one of the important representatives of the late French romantic music.Symphony of French Folk Songs is his important representative work.Harmony plays an important role in this work.At present,the harmony research of this work is still blank at home and abroad.This paper analyzes the harmony phenomenon in Vincent dandy’s Symphony from the perspective of harmony,and explores dandy’s unique harmony thinking of blending romanticism and nationalism.In this paper,Dandy’s "Symphony of French Folk Songs" as the research object,harmony techniques as the main research point for research and analysis.This paper mainly analyzes and studies the topic from four aspects: the characteristics of modes and tonality,the use and solution of harmony materials,and the characteristics of harmony.First of all,through the methods of music literature and musicology,this paper makes a comprehensive analysis of dandy’s life and creation,and analyzes the overall music characteristics of this symphony.Secondly,starting from the mode and tonality,through the horizontal connection and vertical organization of harmony materials,this paper makes a detailed study and analysis of the work by using Schenck analysis and traditional harmony analysis So as to sum up the artistic characteristics of Dandy’s work and the overall characteristics of harmony techniques.It is found that Dandy’s Symphony creation is based on the functional system of major and minor,and integrates the tonal harmony.Through the complex chord structure,the logical development of function and other creative means,Dandy’s unique harmony thinking of romanticism and national blending is formed.Among them,the tonality features of Polyphony and new tonality in dandy’s works show a very personal style of harmony creation features;in the use and solution of harmony materials,harmony characteristics of these two aspects,it focuses on the use of added triad and composite chord features and the breakthrough creation techniques of linearized harmony.On the one hand,this writing technique provides an effective theoretical and practical basis for the development of French music at that time,but also provides a new way of thinking for the development of Chinese National Symphony.
