During the Qing Dynasty, a great quantity of Chinese travelled far away across the sea to make aliving there. The brought with them their mother language, traditions, cultures, etc. and they stillclosely connected with their homeland. In order to survive in the foreign countries, the Chinesepeople abroad were bond to go through the process of adaption, integration, and eventualassimilation.The publication of Gong An Bu is the reappearance of the real condition of Bataviaforeign citizens of Chinese origin. Through the case analysis, this paper finds that their marriagecustoms maintained a lot of Chinese elements, which were almost the same as Chinesetraditional way of getting married or divorced. Moreover, they cherished Chinese gods andcelebrated festivals according to traditional Chinese customs. In addition, they followed Chineseceremonies and conventions at funerals. However, the Batavia foreign citizens of Chinese origintend to identify with Chinese culture and meanwhile integrate into the local society due to theinfluence of cross-cultural background, the overseas policy of the Qing Government, the localpolicies in Batavia and the inner factors of the Batavia-Chinese society.
