India is one of the founding members of the United Nations. Since1950s, Indiabegan the history of peacekeeping. As the important part of India’s foreign policy, theparticipation in the peacekeeping has significant in maintain and promote India’snational interest. Different stages have different characteristics for India’speacekeeping.India has long cherished the expectation of becoming the permanent member ofthe UN Security Council, which is also the demonstration of India’s dream ofbecoming a major power in the world. The paper also discussed the relations betweenIndia’s peacekeeping and proactive seeking for the permanent seat in the UN SecurityCouncil in order to realize its dream of becoming the major power.In addition, the paper tried to find out the factors influencing India’speacekeeping strategy. By carding the development of India’s peacekeeping, andstudying the cases in Congo and Somalia, the paper concludes the feature, problemand future of India’s peacekeeping.By carding the history and analyzing the cases, the paper trims the statistics andput India’s peacekeeping in its foreign policy, which may complement the study ofUN’s peacekeeping.
