North Korea’s Political Culture And External Negotiating Straty

This paper mainly focuses on the domain of political culture, discussing and analyzing the major reasons which influenced the negotiating strategies of North Korea and its formation. This paper starts with comparing different negotiating strategies in different countries, and through analyzing the cultural factors involved in the process, find out the influences cultural factors have during the process of international negotiations. Secondly, the paper also focuses on analyzing the diplomatic negotiating style and strategy based on the political culture and historical characteristics of North Korea and tries proving that its unique historical experiences have a strong impact on its current diplomatic negotiating style. In addition, the paper analyzes the ways some factors, like the political system, values and the socializing process, have on the negotiators from North Korea. Through this research, it shows that as time goes by, with the changes with the negotiators, their diplomatic negotiating tactics and strategies will also change accordingly. Besides, this paper also analyzes the process of Six Party Talks through theories and actual examples. Through combining the strategies and contents North Korea applies in every round of talk and combining substantive diplomatic negotiating strategy and the political culture elements of North Korea, this paper is trying to understand the diplomatic negotiating strategic focus of North Korea and analyze its negotiating strategy through the research of its political culture. Through this research methodology, the diplomatic strategy of North Korea can be interpreted from different perspective, and unique viewpoints can be proposed. It is particularly true that the diplomatic negotiating strategy can be discovered through the research on cross-cultural negotiating strategy. In this way, people can obtain a deeper understanding of the root cause of North Korea’s diplomatic negotiating attitude they have been holding. After the negotiating parties understand North Korea’s negotiating strategy and style, they can better copy with the negotiating strategy North Korea applies during the negotiations. Besides, it may also contribute to the stability of the international situation.
