The Charitable Donations In Hongkong And Taiwan And Their Influence On Mainland China

Symbolizing the good side of human nature, charity appears with the development of human civilization. In China, a country which promotes charitable donations, charity has had a long history till now. However, compared with some developed countries and other rather developed areas in China, such as Hongkong and Taiwan, charity in mainland China is not so mature in its rules, systems, notions and the ways to operate the course. After the2008Wenchuan earthquake, a tide of charity swept China with more and more people and enterprises devoting to the course of charity. Nevertheless, owing to the obscurity of the usage of a part of the devoted money, the credibility of some charity organizations in mainland China was challenged afterwards. This, to some extent, revealed the problems existing in charity.At present, the development of charity symbolizes the extent to which civilization develops in a country. Chairman Hu Jintao once illustrated his idea on charity in The report of the17th Party Congress, saying that charity should be a complementary part of social security so as to make the social assistance system sound and healthy. Besides, the rapid development of Chinese economy, the steady increase of people’s income and the nice operation of the enterprises with non-governmental investors have provided material foundations for the course of charity in mainland China. Consequently, the operation of charity in China has entered into an era of rapid development, which offers a valuable opportunity to perfect itself through learning from other effective experience in Hongkong and Taiwan.In this thesis, the author firstly makes an analysis of the history of charity in Hongkong and Taiwan through referring to some useful documents. Then, exploring the current situation of charity in these two areas, the author illustrates the features of charitable donations there and the various aspects that contribute to the sound development of charity in Hongkong and Taiwan. Finally, the author tries to analyze the problems in the charity course in mainland China, and with the help of advanced experience in the practice of charity in Hongkong and Taiwan, presents effective methods to make the charity course in mainland China sound and healthy.
