Philanthropy needs every citizen's participation. However, private charitable donations experience a dissatisfying development in China mainland. This essay mainly discusses some key factors relative to the private charitable donations in China mainland.Based on the theory of utility maximization, the essay establishes a framework of private charitable donations. As a result, we find that the level of income, the cost, the benefit have the relationship with individually charitable contribution. This essay is divided into four parts. The first part explicates the relate notions of private charitable donations, the sense of private charitable donations and the design of the study. The second part explicates the income level, proves the relationship between income level and private charitable donations. The third part discusses the cost of private charitable donations. In this part, we mainly analyze the cost of contributing behavior and the cost of tax revenue. The fourth part probes into the benefit of private charitable donations. In this part, we mainly investigate charity sense, the preference of charitable spending and the incentive of non-substance.The essay finds that, several dependent factors, such as the lower level of income, the higher cost of private charitable donations and the lower benefit of private charitable donations relative to the problem of private charitable donations. So in order to improve the status of private charitable donations, government, social and charitable organizations should work together to reduce the cost and increase the benefit of private charitable donations.
