With the development of agriculture, and constantly advancing of the construction ofnew socialist rural area, the direction for development of rural China is increasingly drawingclose to social cooperative system, especially the development of the farmers’ professionalmutual organization, showing obvious advantages in enhancing the farmers’ organizationdegree, increasing the farmers’ income, and building modern agriculture. But there still someproblems in current agricultural cooperation, for example, the lack of a sound mechanism forland circulation; the weakness of cooperative consciousness and right-protection awareness;low level of scale management; mandatory cooperation and so on. So we must recognize thesituation, perfect the system and mechanism matched with cooperative management, andcombine developing agriculture industrialization with cultivating new cooperativeorganization. Cooperative road is not strange for us, and the agricultural cooperative thoughtsof Mao Zedong can provide us with reference. Looking back on the history of socialisttransformation of agriculture of China, we think: in the1950s, guided by Mao Zedong, Chinasuccessfully completed socialist transformation of agriculture, which turned scatteredbackward individual small-scale peasant economy for thousands of years to be on the way ofcollectivization with the public sector remaining dominant, and accomplished a great reformof production relations of rural China’s old social economic system. In the agriculturalcooperation movement, Mao Zedong, as the main decision-maker and also the leader, madegreat contributions to drawing a wonderful blueprint of socialist agricultural modernization,and gradually formed his own thoughts and opinions.This paper does comprehensive and thorough research on the agricultural cooperativethoughts of Mao Zedong. The first part elaborates the theoretical sources of it. The second part explores its historical tracks from phases of germination, taking shape, maturity, furtherdevelopment and perfection. The third part systematically summarizes the main content of it,and emphatically discusses Mao Zedong’s recognition on the relations between cooperationand mechanization and industrialization, and the policies, principles, steps, class policies thatshould be insisted in the process of cooperation. The fourth part expounds the reality practiceof it, discusses the background and the practice of cooperation, and deeply sums up theachievements and problems lying in the movement. The end of the paper objectivelyevaluates the agricultural cooperative thoughts of Mao Zedong, and explicates its instructivesignificance for agriculture development nowadays. Agricultural cooperation is an inevitablechoice and the direction of Chinese agriculture development in the future, and the agriculturalcooperative thoughts of Mao Zedong has referential significance for future agriculturedevelopment.
