International political environment has undergone great changes after the Cold War. Mongolia and Japan begin to adjust their diplomatic strategies and their relationships demonstrate signs of steady development. As an Inland state and an Island state, their special geopolitical environments make their diplomacy unique. From the end of the Cold War, the relationship between the two countries has experienced two different stages and each stage has its traits. From these different traits, we can see the signs of steady development.Meanwhile, their special geopolitical environments restrict their diplomatic strategies. The geopolitical location is one of the most stable ingredients of the constitution of the power of the country. Every country must and have to evaluate the impact of the geopolitical location and then formulate the diplomatic strategy which can promote the national interest to the maximization. From the relationship between the two countries after the end of the Cold War, we can clearly see the impacts of their special geopolitical environments. Especially, Mongolia, as the largest Inland state, in the Cold War, it relied on the Russia too much and ignored the China, and then it had to undergo great burden and loss. After the Cold War, it makes its diplomatic strategy based on its geopolitical location and then makes great success.The steady development of the two countries is rooted in the great changes of the international political environment of the Northeast Asia, and then it has greatly influenced the relationships of the countries of the Northeast Asia. In the meantime, the steady development of the two countries has the influence on the choice of Chinese diplomatic policy.Mongolia and Japan, as one of landlocked countries and one of island countries, have the unique geopolitical location in the world. From the development of two countries, we can try to conclude the module of diplomacy of the landlocked countries and island countries and then give us the theoretical perspective.
