As a special group in China’s long history, secret societies were seldom researched ormentioned. However, those secret societies still appear on the stage of Chinese history. Ifwe deny this group just because of its mystery or some bad rumors on its association, wemay disobey historical materialism. During the period of Modern bourgeois revolutionand The New democratic revolution, some secret societies contributed a lot to ourrevolutions. Consequently, it is a sign of history respecting by doing the research of secretsocieties.Secret societies emerged in the modern and contemporary time, which was a quitemiserable stage in China’s history---war, poverty, unemployment and instability. Beforethe establishment of Chinese Communist Party (CCP), secret societies had alreadyscattered every corners in China. Some workers in the early period, who were deeplyrooted in feudalism, would easily join in those secret societies to obtain protection fromthem. In order to protect themselves from the war, disaster or bandit, other secret societieswere founded spontaneously in the vast countryside. From its foundation CCP had been strived to organize workers to participate invariety of economic and political struggles. It is inevitable for communists to havedifferent conflicts with those secret societies in CCP’s process to gain workers over. Sothe research on the conflicts between CCP and secret societies should become one part ofCCP’s history. Although there are only a few related resources about secret societies, westill found the truth become more and more clearly before us as more and more materialsstreaming to our hands. Grasping those materials, my paper can do researches on CCP’spolicies or recognition to those secret societies during the period of CCP’s foundation. This text is divided into three chapters. We can acquire an overall knowledge aboutsecret societies’ true situation CCP faced from the first chapter. Chapter1has threesections, which respectively present the secret societies’ properties, their existing state andthe analysis of difference among secret societies, gangland and bandit. Chapter2mainlytells the policies to secret societies when CCP was leading workers and peasants’movements. This chapter introduces early CCP’s attitude to each class and its tactics tosecret societies in three sections. And we can further demonstrate Communists’ relatedpolicies from their writings. The last part, which is the third chapter in the paper, mainlytells what impact would be occurred under the process of CCP’s recognition and copingwith secret societies. This chapter refers how we should dissolve those problems under thesocialist construction.
