The maritime disputes on our adjacent seas are mainly related to East China Sea, South China Sea and The Yellow Sea, involving the competence and maintenance for the maritime rights and interests related to China, Japanese, South Korea, North Korea and countries of Southeast Asia. Disputes include the issue of sovereignty, the maritime jurisdiction, the maritime security, exclusive economic zone as well as the development and utilization of the continental shelf and so on. The stakeholder countries have conducted frequent actions fighting for their advantage and initiative. In the South China Sea, Southeast Asian countries have illegally occupied our islands, and exploited the resources without authorization. Coupled with the recent U.S interference with the South Sea issue, the situation is getting more intense. In the East China Sea, Japan has been committed to claim the idea of their sovereignty over the Dianoia Islands. Some of their leaders even provided fake demonstration to perjure the point by distorting the historical and legal facts. Japan has even set mark of possession on Dianoia islands mandatorily without consultations and permission. Recently, Japanese government has willfully changed names of those relevant islands in the East China Sea, which has seriously infringed China’s interests. In the Yellow Sea, the US-ROK joint military exercises has been a threat to our coastal safety since ever, and the fishing disputes between China and the ROK in the Yellow Sea has not been addressed properly. One can get their ambitions and plots to the Seas mentioned above of those stakeholder countries through analysis their actions, which has forced us to put our focus of recent diplomatic work on protecting our maritime rights. In face of the stakeholder countries’increasingly frequent and efficient actions, we need to analysis the origin and the cause of those disputes systematically, as well as enriching the data evidence on sea exploitation and maritime delimitation. We should try to propose appropriate measures and policies to resolve those maritime disputes on the basis of international dispute resolution theory and successful experience on maritime disputes settlement of other countries and regions. With the South China Sea issue, we could establish a cooperation mechanism with relevant countries, and try to develop sea recourses jointly through bilateral negotiations. For the East China Sea issue, we suggest to strengthen legislation and facilitate our marine scientific research, while take good advantage of the cross-strait relationship to reach disputes settlement. As to the Yellow Sea issue, we would like to follow the principles below:First, China will not start a dispute. Second, China will not compromise on maritime issue. Third, China will not ignore military provocation. We should strengthen our military forces while try to reduce the possibility of military conflict with ROK in the Yellow Sea.
