Morality which is one of social ideology is the rules and standard of people’ssymbiosis and activities. Morality is determined by particular social-economic baseand gives service to it. Meanwhile there is an intimate relationship between moralityand culture, and even some periods were imprinted the ideology. During thatchangeable era of1960s, the American moral idea presented a unique feature. Thisarticle tries to describe the American moral idea from two aspects of manifestation insocial moral idea and household moral behavior, and also elaborates the reasons andinfluences of their appearance. This article consists of three parts.The first part discusses the manifestations of American social morality during1960s. This part is divided into two aspects. From one side, it sets about the socialmoral ideas and tells the fact that the social moral ideas are no longer adhere topatriotism and people’s behaviors aren’t limited by traditional concept any more whilepeople freely attach importance to spirits and sensory enjoyment on the basis ofseeking material comfort. On the other side, it elaborates people’s opening andwillingness to marriage views based on the concepts of marital household ideas.The second part discusses the reasons of American social moral concepts during1960s. With the economic prosperity, the America has entered into ‘the Age ofAbundance’, it provides firm economic base for seeking mental feast andself-independence; the emergence of the rebels strongly impact traditional moralconcepts. Also the instability of political environment home and abroad effects theformation of moral concepts. There appeared encouragement of liberating humans’natural instincts in culture and ideas and works advocating pursuing mental feast,which had an effect to break restrains of traditional moral concepts. Finally thetechnological progress promotes the transformation of moral concepts.The third part discusses the influence of American social moral concepts onAmerica during1960s. The moral idea in this period brought some positive effects toAmerica: the free and dispensing traditional view offer more freedom to people to alarger extent. The moral idea which valued mental and sensory enjoyment providedimpetus for spiritual enjoyment, yet ensuing negative influence. The relaxed moralidea made people more freely and indulged emergence and development of harmfulconduct. The turning of household moral ideas brought increasing of cohabitingillegally, extramarital love and homosexual acts as well as growing divorce rate andsingle parent family, which brought great impact on traditional marital pattern.
