The theory of China threat isn’t a new phrase that recently appears. As early as thepost cold-war era, the western countries, especially the United States and Japan, launchedthe theory in order to containing China. In the field of international relation, peopleusually don’t pay much attention on the relationship between China and India. Recentyears, India is experiencing the development of economy and the improvement ofcomprehensive state power, which lead to the rising of “China Threat Theory” in India.How to deal with the confidential crisis between China and India is an important issuethat not only related to the people of the two countries to seek the development ofcommon interests, but also related to China to establish good image and gain supportfrom more countries around the world in the new era.This article analyzes the historical process of the “China Threat Theory” in India,divides the process into three periods. First, it analyzes the embryonic stage of the theory.Second, it analyzes the background when India put forward the theory. Finally, itexplains the different periods of evolution. During the procedure of analyzing, theNational Benefits theory and Geopolitics Theory are used to analyze the reason whyIndia advocates the “China Threat Theory”. Those reasons include the external factorssuch as the effect of the western countries as well as the internal factors such as its ownneeds of strategy and environment. In the process of analysis, this paper sums up thecontent, features, and impact of this theory on China, and offers measures to deal withSino-India relations. Finally, it comes to the conclusion that “peaceful development” isChina’s consistent attitude. China is no threat to India or any other countries. Chinashould pay attention to the adverse effect of “China Threat Theory” in India. As to thosebasic disagreements related to the interests of the nation, there should be no compromiseoccurred. Meanwhile, the government should pay attention to the cooperation andexchanges with India, improve mutual understanding and political trust. Opening-up,compatibility, development, and prosperity are the common interests of China and India.We should make the people of India know that there is competition but no threat betweenthese two countries, and the both sides should join hands to achieve their commoninterests—to become opening-up, inclusive, powerful and prosperous countries.
