A Study On The Development Of Rural Females Under The Social Perspective Of Gender

Sexual discrimination is a very common phenomenon in Chaoshan area, where male chauvinism is prevailing and women have a low status both in the society and in the family. Women also face unfair treatment in marriages. These phenomena, not only restrict rural females from self-development, but also have an adverse effect on the economic and social development of local area. The conditions of rural females in Chaoshan area has become an urgent social problem nowadays. We start with the present living conditions of rural females in Chaoshan area, analyze the reasons that restrict them from development, and put forward some suggestions for the promotion of their development.Chapter Ⅱ is an introduction of the conditions of rural females in Chaoshan area from the perspective of gender. It analyzes the situations of women’s low status both in the family and in the society and the serious phenomenon of male chauvinism. In the countryside of Chaoshan area, women’s drop-out rate is very high, and women also bear many earthly pressures. For example, women must bear sons, women must act the part of an understanding wife and a loving mother at home, and women must follow the three obediences and the four virtues, assisting husband and bringing up children at home, while their husbands are earning money outside.Chapter Ⅲ analyzes the reasons that restrict rural females from development. The reasons are as follow:women are not independent economically; the consciousness of the equality between the two genders is weak; the residual influences of traditional sense of child-bearing still is still in progress; women’s right to education and their right of participating in public affairs are practically are not fulfilled, etc.Chapter Ⅳ looks at the issue of the development of rural females in Chaoshan area with a forward insight. Promotion of the development of rural females in Chaoshan area should be dealt with both subjectively and objectively. Subjectively, rural females should strengthen their own subject consciousness, expand space of self-survival; rural females should come out of the narrow family circle, take an active part in social economic activities, and promote their economic status in family and social life; rural females should expand the channels and scopes of employment, and master the operational methods of some mechanical tools of production; rural females should establish a correct viewpoint of life and values, enhance the consciousness of equality between the two genders, and overcome the traditionalinferiority sense of "Men lead, women follow". Objectively, the government should increase efforts to protect women’s interests, improve systems of household registry, health care, endowment and children’s education; the government should adopt people-oriented policies, and encourage women to come out of the narrow family circle; and most importantly, the government should pay close attention to women’s mental health, help them to reduce the psychological burden, and promote the all-around development of rural females.
