The Research For DengXiaoping’s Contribution To Popularization Of Marxism In Reform And Opening Period

The Report of the Seventeenth National Congress of the Communist Party points out that "we are to make every effort to promote theoretical innovation by endowing the contemporary Chinese Marxism with striking practical, national and temporal characteristics. And we are to publicize the system of theories of Socialism with Chinese characteristics by organizing activities to promote the Popularization of Marxism in contemporary China." Now the Popularization of Marxism has become one of the research spotlights. Based on previous studies, this paper focuses on Deng Xiaoping’s contributions to the Popularization of Marxism during the Reform and Opening-up Period.We define the Population of Marxism as the following process, i.e. people, based on their own needs and wants, gradually understand, grasp and approve the Marxist guidelines, and this approval ends up as their theoretical weapon and behavioral guide as well in their cognizing and transforming the physical world. Thus the Popularization of Marxism in essence contains two aspects, namely "Popularization" and "Dissemination" of Marxism. The former refers to the process, in which the guidelines of Marxism transform from abstract scholarly theories to concrete popular guidelines of the masses, from a sporadic grasp of a few people to a complete understanding of the masses. And the latter refers to another process in which the masses are influenced by Marxism and Marxism eventually is internalized as a theoretical weapon and spiritual power in their cognizing and transforming the physical world. Based on the two aspects of Marxism, this paper aims to study the unique contributions of Deng Xiaoping to the Popularization of Marxism.Deng Xiaoping’s contributions to the Popularization of Marxism during the Reform and Opening-up period centers on the following three aspects:theoretical, practical and historical contributions. Sorting out classical Marxist writers’literature on the thought of the popularization of Marxism, this paper respectively illustrates Deng Xiaoping’s contributions above. Deng Xiaoping’s theoretical contribution is embedded in his profound illustration, in a way of reverse thinking, specific truths, popular language and respect of the masses, on the essence of Socialism, the primary stage of Socialism, and the theory of Socialist Market Economy, etc, all of which cause effectively Marxism’s Popularization. Deng Xiaoping’s practical contribution is demonstrated in the reality of putting Marxism into concrete practice in contemporary China, which brings tangible benefits and interests to the masses and ends up with their deeper understanding of Marxism. Deng Xiaoping’s historical contribution is realized by Deng Xiaoping’s inheritance, further development and innovation of Marxism, especially of the popularization of Marxism of Mao Zedong Thought.Based on Deng Xiaoping’s contributions above mentioned, this paper points further out the values of these contributions. It follows that this paper prompts our deeper understanding of Deng Xiaoping’s contributions, and it is critical significance and referential insight for progressing the Popularization of Marxism in contemporary China.
