All real history is modern history, Imperial Examination System has become historian fact, but selecting talent by examination is still a fact in modern society. Cheating is the enemy of all examination. In21st century, cheating has becoming the public nuisance through the world. This thesis probes into the cheating and anti-cheating in Imperial Examination System, and further explores its influences on function’s alienation of Imperial Examination System. Through researching history, it supplies better modern examination system with a history perspective.Imperial Examination is a great initiative in Chinese history, and is a selection system marked with equity. However, during1300years, cheating coupled with Imperial Examination all the time, and made its function alienated. In order to select better talent and defend feudal government, governors take rigorous measures to prevent cheating in Imperial Examination and punish the cheating activities and cheaters severely. As result of such measures, Imperial Examination had been used and followed1300year, its equity had been guaranteed, which influenced even western countries and became their mold for Civil Service. Cheating and anti-cheating per se had aggravated the formality of form and content of Imperial Examination and oppressed the character of learner and examinee, and resulting in the alienation of Imperial Examination’s function.This thesis has five parts, first part is introduction of thesis, second, third, forth parts are the main body, and fifth part is the summary of thesis. Firth part analyses the main purpose and task of thesis, the main means of research, and existing results of other researchers. Second part explores the cheating activities of examiners and examinee and the anti-cheating measures of ancient governments. Third part probes into the causes of cheating which continued to be existing after repeated banning, such as social psychology, political system and resource shortage. Forth part investigates the cheating and anti-cheating in Imperial Examination which led to the alienation of Imperial Examination’s function. Probing into the meaning and value of this thesis on perfecting the examination system of modern society.
