"The Origins of Totalitarianism" makes Hannah Arendt well-known to the world, by which she won great academic reputation and, meanwhile, caused huge controversy. But this never hinders Arendt enormous impact in academic and "The Origins of Totalitarianism" is more of required reading text for people who study totalitarianism. The article aims to explore the origins of totalitarianism in depth on the basis of Arendt’s study. According to Arendt’s view point, the origins of totalitarianism’s core ideas can be found in the previous social and political order, although this is a definitely new political phenomenon in the whole human history. Overall, Arendt’s theory is that:in19th Century, political order takes nation-state and representative government as the core and social order takes class society as the pillar. With the development of capitalism, the19th Century’s order experienced a process of dissolution and the1st World War declared the old order comprehensive disintegration. This disintegration comes out partly because of the vulnerability of nation-state order and partly because of external factors such as the presence of imperialism. In the old order ruins, the Nazi totalitarianism just fill gaps in the early20th Century’s order. While as a political phenomenon, anti-Semitism is closely related to the disintegration of social order and political order in19th century and fully reflects order disintegration in19th century and Nazi totalitarianism order reconstruction in20th century.
