Jews are a group of Semitic people who originated in Canaan and believed in the biblical account of Jewish origins, calling themselves the“chosen people”.The nation of Israel reached its zenith under the reign of King Solomon. After his death, the Kingdom of Judah was conquered by the Babylonian Empire. In the 1st century A.D,Jerusalem was sacked by a Roman army, and the Jews began a millennia-long history of diaspora. The faith of the Jewish people,Judaism, was formed around 1400 B.C.Rabbinic Judaism compiled the Oral Torah into the law,the Talmud, which was the center of Judaism.Christianity, which was of the same origin as Judaism, was founded in the 1st century A.D.However,Christians attacked Jews based on doctrinal differences, which became a religious cause of anti-Semitism.Since the beginning of the diaspora,Jews have been subjected to much hostility,and“anti-Semitism”was first used to refer to“anti-Judaism”.Since the 15th century,however,“anti-Semitism”became more vocal and racist. The United States is second only to Israel in the world population distribution of Jews, but Jews continue to experience varying degrees of discrimination in the U.S.from all sides.Since the beginning of the Jewish Diaspora,Jewish immigrants in the United States have suffered all kinds of hostility.Anti-Semitism in the country emerged in the late 19th century and gradually became more outspoken and overt. The anti-Semitic incident at the Saratoga Springs Hotel in 1877 was considered the first overtly anti-Semitic incident in the United States.Since then,anti-Semitism has been on the rise.In the early 20th century, influenced by a wave of anti-Semitism in Europe,Jews in the United States fared worse and were often the target of vicious attacks.Anti-Semitism grew to a crescendo in the1930s and 1940s,and Jews were discriminated in many aspects, including education and the labor market. After the end of World War II,anti-Semitism subsided in America. While Jews no longer suffered from overt discrimination, they still did not feel fully integrated into American society. In the 1970s,the revival of the Ku Klux Klan and the neo-Nazi forces had a renewed impact on the Jews. The resurgence of white nationalism in the 21st century, mostly since the election of Trump, has led to sporadic anti-Semitic violence.Anti-Semitism in the United States exists for various reasons, not only from the closed and conservative nature of Jewish racial beliefs and the etiology hatred toward Jews among white Americans. Many external factors have also contributed to the spread of anti-Semitism,such as the long-standing tradition of xenophobia and exclusion system within the United States, which has added many shackles to the integration of Jews into American society. The development of anti-Semitic doctrines and movements in Europe has also had a considerable external impact on the mainstream American ideology.Besides, the United States Government’s Middle East policy has also influenced the attitude of some white Americans towards Jews. All things considered, communication and cooperation between white Americans and Jews will be the mainstay of society in the future.Nevertheless,anti-Semitism will not die,it will continue to exist in American society from time to time in the form of sporadic violent anti-Semitic incidents initiated by the racists.
