Shanghai Foreign Studies

After the end of the Cold War, the process of globaliazation accelerates increasingly in the international environment, the major obstacle to international exchanges is no longer concentrated in the national political system. Globalization has made more and more non-state actors to set foot on the international stage of their abilities, their role in the country’s foreign aroused widespread concern in the international community, to break through the traditional form of diplomacy. City,as a subnational government on the world stage, has been playing an active role with various international actors. The foreign relations of the city, or a reference to a fresh vocabulary "city diplomacy", not only on behalf of the important part of the local foreign affairs, but also represent the future of the international community to the new Ministry of Foreign Affairs trends and trends.Since the1843inception, Shanghai has been the "Oriental Paris" before liberation in1949, after the founding of the new era, it became an important way of international metropolis. The study of the evolution of the foreign affairs and international exchanges in Shanghai city is an important foundation of a new chapter in the21st century. This paper is divided into four parts, the first part describes the concept and nature of the city diplomacy, analyzed the the city diplomacy geographic determinants; second part reviews the three stages of the Shanghai city diplomacy from prototype to mature and simple comb; detailed levels of the third part outlines the practical activities of the Shanghai city diplomacy in recent years. The Last part aims to put forward first some thoughts on the basis of first three parts.
