Marxism theory is a scientific theory about the general rules of nature, society andhuman thinking. As a great tool to improve the subjective and objective world, Marxism hasbeen adopted in China and made great contribution to China’s revolution and socialismconstruction. In the new phase of socialism development, our party advocates the MarxismPopularity, which is the propaganda and popularization of the new theoretical result ofMarxism, i.e. Chinese characteristic socialism theory system. With the popularization of it, itis wished that this theory could guide the behavior and thinking of people.Colleges and universities have the duty to educate the qualified builder and inheritor ofsocialism, which means they are significant in the enhancement of Marxism popularity. We’ve had some achievements, yet there are shortages. The author summarized severalproblems of Marxism popularization in colleges according to a survey and relevant workingexperience. For example, some students’ beliefs are not stable and tend to be affected byother theories; some have difficulty in emotion control, or confused about the purpose ofstudy; some students are unable or reluctant to explain the problems in life and society withMarxism. The reasons behind these phenomena are complex, and can be summarized to thefollowing factors: first, the social change, such as the impact of globalization, the negativeeffects during the process of reform and opening-up, and the popularization of the Internet, has offered students more theories and more complex reality, which exert negative influenceon students. Second, colleges and universities haven’t attached enough importance toMarxism popularization, the “two courses” is often treated as less important course and theselection and training of the teachers are not serious enough. Third, the effect of Marxismtheory teaching is not good enough because the textbooks are old, the testing is rigid, theteachers are not of high quality, and the teaching methods are too simple. These have madesome college students reluctant to study and accept Marxism. Fourth, the ways that collegesand universities popularize Marxism are too narrow and simple, which offers the studentslittle contact to Marxism in their lives. Last but not the least, the mechanism of collegeMarxism popularization is of low efficiency. For example, the responsibilities of the leadersare vague, the departments’ responsibilities are mixed, and there are not enough encouragement and bonus for both departments and employees. In summary, all these factorslead to the less satisfying effect of college Marxism popularization. After the survey and the discussion of the reasons, the author realized the importanceand urgency of the improvement of college Marxism popularization. The author offered theprinciples and routes of the improvement of college Marxism popularization. The threeprinciples are as follows.1. The theories must be close to practice.2. The theories andpractice should be close to the present society and the effect must be of great importance.3.We should innovate on the basis of inheritance. These principles are the guidance whichshould be followed in the discussion of concrete measures. Then the author proposed theconcrete measures of improving college Marxism popularization. The first measure is that theteaching content should be updated on time. For instance, we can increase the comparisoncontent and the textbook should display both the positive and negative side of the society. The second measure is the improvement of the teaching method. We must combine theteaching and the practice, increase the application of modern technology, attach greaterimportance to the status of students in the teaching process, and increase the involvement ofstudents in class. The third measure is the diversification of popularization ways. For example, the recessive courses should be increased. The Marxism should guide the construction ofcampus culture. We should be more positive about the role of mass media and the Internetand try to make use of them. And the teachers should try their best to be the role models. Thefourth measure is the improvement of college mechanisms. The responsibilities of leadersshould be clear and there should be a coordination mechanism among departments. And themonitor and check mechanism should be fair and efficient. With the application of the abovemeasures, we may expect a brighter future of college Marxism popularization.
