Public Morality Reconstruction In The Period Of Social Transformation

Since reform and opening up, our country is witnessing profound changes in the areas of economic, social, cultural as well as areas of public life in modern society which has been widely extended. However, the transformation of social system and changes of the moral values have produced the sort of social public relationship complexities, which initiate a series of contradictions and problems as a result. The construction of public morality is confronted with great challenges from a long time "dormancy" of public spirit due to the weakness in some citizens’public consciousness in reality. Therefore, to improve the public moral situation in reality is looming ahead.There are three main causes that lead to public moral crisis:social trasformation, multicultural shock, and fragile historic foundations in public moral. Among these reasons, the impact of multiculture on our country mainstream moral values and the traditonal cultural rituals of sufficient personal morality and insufficient social morality are the deep reason for the public moral crisis. Proceeding from China’s national conditions, we must reconstruct public morality from two aspects:morality heteronomy and self-discipline, and put forward several feasible suggestions pointedly. In the period of social transformation, the system path to solve the problem of public morality is to advance the course of public moral legalization so as to improve moral responsibility system and protection system focusing on the negative public moral; the cognitive one is to enhance citizens’moral self-discipline and public morality emotion from the state and society which forms a moral atmosphere of respecting and being kind to strangers; the cultural one is to realize the current transition of our traditional morality’and push forward the new fuse of modern public spirit and traditional morality culture.
