On Modern Construction Of Social Morality In Our Country

The historical reflections and modern construction of our social morality which began in the early part of the 20* century, does not achieve satisfactory effects, though lasted for nearly 100 years. Construction of social morality appears weak in the period of reform and opening and the deepening of socialist construction with Chinese characteristics. So, to study the construction of social morality is of great theoretical and practical importance. The reason for the lacking of social morality is manifold, and we can research from different angles. This article argues that the mal-development of public sphere and that social morality does not change to nation's cultural and psychological quality caused by long traditional society are the deep reason for the lacking of social morality awareness. In the long Chinese traditional society, restricted by natural economy, by Emperor's power, by ancestral system, influenced by traditional ethics, the sphere of public life mal-growed, modern social morality didn't come up. Since the early part of the 20th century, such experts as Liang Qichao, Cai Yuanpei, Lu Xun studied social morality from different angles and put forward many enlightening ideas. Since the foundation of New China, Party and the government lead the people to develop moral construction and make great success. However, generally speaking, the construction of social morality needs to be strengthened.In light of the research results on social morality in the academic circle, this article argues that we must construct modern social morality from two aspects: sphere of public life and public spirit. On one hand, we should develop public sphere, and perfect the norms of social morality. On the other hand, we should cultivate public spirit. If only we combine the two aspects can we really change the present situation of lacking social morality in our country, and mold modern citizens possessing excellent social morality quality and modern mental attitude.
