In the increasingly fierce global energy race, the competition between China and Japan in the oil and gas resources is especially remarkable. Both sides launched a fierce competition for energy around the Russian oil pipeline, gas reserves in the East China Sea, the Middle East oil and the oil and gas resources in Central Asia, etc. after the Cold War. But at the same time, China and Japan have conduct cooperation in the aspects of communication in energy technology, promoting the Northeast Asia multilateral energy cooperation and maintaining international energy security. The Sino-Japanese energy relations have been under the coexistence situation of cooperation and competition after the Cold War. The causes of Sino-Japanese energy competition are not only the economic factors such as energy structure change and similar energy strategy, but also involve each other’s strategic interests and security strategy. But China and Japan also have the motivation of energy cooperation:The two countries attach great importance to energy conservation and environmental protection; as Asian energy importers, both countries are facing the common international energy competition; they must have consideration for the overall interests of Sino-Japanese relations.Excessive energy competition will only cause losses to both sides, it would be wise to seek cooperation under competition between the two countries. Japan’s energy policy is a significant lesson for the sustainable development of China’s energy and Chinese energy security strategy, In the face of Japan’s energy competition, China should improve her own strength, insist on the principle and take active coping strategies, in order to ensure our energy security and safeguard national interests.
