The Study On Rawls’s View Of Justice And Con Struction Of Socialist Harmonious Society

The report at the18th Party Congress of CPC clearly pointed out that we must safeguard social fairness and justice. Fairness and justice are inherent requirements of socialism with Chinese characteristics. We must, relying on the concerted efforts of all the Chinese people and based on economic and social development, step up efforts to develop institutions that are vital to ensuring social fairness and justice; establish in due course a system for guaranteeing fairness in society featuring, among other things, equal rights, equal opportunities and fair rules for all; and foster a fair social environment and ensure people’s equal right to participation in governance and to development.Justice is not only the primary value of the social system, but also the basic subject for the study of the humanities and social sciences. Our people have never stopped the pursuit of justice since the birth of class society. The relation between social justice and harmonious society, which is the fundamental issue, matters greatly in the development of human society and progress. Western scholars embarked upon the course of justice earlier, and also achieved very great success. Among them, the representative one should be John Rawls in the United States, his masterpiece Theory of Justice which was published in1971has created a stir in the western academic circles, therefore many scholars put him on a par with Locke and Mill, and his book, together with two others of Concerning Civil Governmentand Liberty, is called the classic of Liberal Democratic tradition. Rawls’s thoughts of justice began to spread to the domestic academic circles in the mid-late80s in the last century, and there have been two Rawls research climaxes in1988and1996, it has drawn close attention of the domestic scholars ever since. Rawls’s80th birthday year in2001, domestic research on Rawls rose again and no reduction after that. Combining with the current situation in new period of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, the study of social justice has great and real sense to construct the socialist harmonious society.Chapter one aims to obtain the understanding of the concept of justice. The connotation of "justice", analyses of the relations and differences of justice and fairness, righteousness, equality are presented here. Focus is given to Rawls’s uniqueness of "justice" thoughts on the basis of the interpretation of that of the western scholars before Rawls.Chapter two is an overview of Rawls’s view of justice. The formation background of Rawls’s concept of justice from the theoretical origin to the demands of the reality has gained much space in details as it is the center of this paper writing. In this, the author explores the original state, the veil of ignorance and two basic principles as the core content, meanwhile, the theoretical contributions and defects have been revealed based on the induction of the main characteristics of Rawls’s view of justice.Chapter three pictures the relation between social justice and the socialist harmonious society. In the former part, the author holds that social justice is the due demand of the socialist harmonious society, and then is the embodiment of justice loss and its causes in the process of building a socialist harmonious society.Chapter four delivers us the inspiration of Rawls’s view of justice to the construction of a socialist harmonious society in China. The enlightenment it brings us is depicted as follows:Adhere to the principles of establishing justice concept of building a socialist harmonious society as the starting point, improving people’s livelihood as the core point, perfecting the system as the focal point.
