The Educational Reform at the Basic Level promotes the notion of education for all-arounddevelopment, which stresses the cultivation of students’ scientific attainment, innovativeness andpractical abilities. Biology practical ability occupies an important position in the teachingobjectives of biology course for it constitutes the essence of scientific capacity. Thus twoquestions arise: what biology practical ability consists of, and how to cultivate students’ biologypractical ability? Propelled by these questions, the thesis topic is meant to address the twoquestions.The research centres on the cultivation of middle school students’ biology practical ability,following the steps of posing, analyzing and solving questions. Surveys are made in order to maketheoretical knowledge infused with practical explorations of cultivating students’ ability. And thethesis is laid out as the following:The first chapter is an introduction. This chapter introduces the background of the topic, abrief literature review, the research methods, as well as the significance and uniqueness of theresearch. Based on an abundance of material, the research has deeply explored the meaning ofbiology practical ability, shaping a theoretical framework for the research.The second chapter deals with a survey of middle school students’ biology ability. The surveyis made through questionnaire, and the results show that the situation is undesirable. Studentsperform ill in aspects of experimenting, observing, collecting and handling biology information,expressing biology ideas and solving practical problems by using biological knowledge. Thesubjects are selected at random at six middle schools in Ganzhou City.The third chapter is an analysis of the main factors affecting middle school students’ biologypractical ability. It combines the survey results and theoretical studying and analyzes the mainfactors affecting the cultivation and development of middle school students’ biology practicalability. Through the analysis, author discovered that the students’ subjective factors is the middleschool students’ biology practice ability of formation and development of the core elements,Students’ subjective factors include the students’ biology practical interest, biology practicalattitude and biology practical motivation, etc. Schools are the key factors of restricting thedevelopment of the middle school students ’ biology practical ability, such as the concept of schooleducation, school education and teaching mode, teaching equipment, teaching staff, teachingevaluation system and so on. Those factors have the different degree of influence on thecultivation and development of students’ biology practice ability.The family and social environment are the important factors that affect the cultivation and development of the students’biology practice ability.The forth chapter is a strategy study of the cultivation of students’ biology practical ability.By using case study and theoretical analysis, it proposes some useful strategies in cultivatingstudents’ biology practical ability. First, to stimulate students’ biology practice motivation andpromote students’ active practice. For example, respecting for the needs of students and promotingthe formation of students’ practical motivation; encouraging students to actively practice andimproving students ’ sense of practice; providing successful practice opportunity and arousingstudents ’ biology practice interest. Second, to strengthen the practice teaching and createconditions for the cultivation of the students’ biology practice ability. Such as strengthening theconstruction of teaching facilities,optimizing biology experiment teaching, carrying outextracurricular practice activities, shifting backward view on teaching evaluation, strengtheningthe construction of teaching staff, expanding the biology curriculum resources.Third, to carry outthe joint of home and school and and roundly train the students’ biology practice ability.The fifth chapter is an exploration of teaching models in cultivating middle school students’biology practical ability. Author put forward teaching practice modes as the following: to carry outinquiry learning and cultivate the students’ biology practice ability; to build a cooperative learningplatform and enhance students’ biology practice ability; to carry out comprehensive practicalactivity and train students’ biology practice ability.It discusses some teaching models in actualteaching, hoping to render some reference to biology class teaching at middle schools.
