Background and Objective:As the aged population grows, their health conditions and the related socialproblems draw more concerns from the whole society. Through the contrasting analysisand study about such indices as body shape, physical function and quality of the elderlyin Shanxi Province 2005 and 2010, the paper explores the characters of physiquechanges for the elderly in Shanxi Province, providing a scientific foundation for theirscience fitness and longevity, as well as a reference for the government to carry out theprogram of caring for the elderly.Research methods:Taking 4957 the elderly as study objects in the 3rdnational physical fitnessmonitoring among 11 cities in Shanxi Province, including 2426 males and 2531 females,according to the standards laid down by State Physical Cultural Administration, thepaper tests 8 indices for the elderly as weight, BMI index, HR rest, lung capacity, gripstrength, the one foot stand, choice reaction time and body anteflexion when sitting,analyzes their body shape, physical function and physique changes with the statisticalmethods of average and T test, compared with the test data from the elderly in 2005.Research results:1)The physique qualified rate of the elderly in 2010 is lower than that in 2005,respectively, decreased by 10%(P<0.01)for males and 5%(P<0.01) . The same goes tothe elderly in towns and countries.2)In 2010 the elderly in the towns (males aged 60-69 and females aged 65-69) aremuch heavier than those in the countries. The sum of overweight rate and obesity rate is over 55%, obesity group is to 12-21%. For the urban males and females, the sum ofoverweight rate and obesity rate of all ages is over 60.0%. Except for females aged60-64, the sum of overweight rate and obesity rate of others is over 55.0%. for theelderly, the overweight rate and obesity rate has increased significantly compared withthat in 2005 (P<0.01).3)In 2010 the quiet pulse of the urban elderly are lower than that of the ruralelderly (P<0.01); the lung capacity of the urban elderly are larger than that of the ruralelderly (P<0.01).4)As to the grip strength, the urban elderly are larger than the rural elderly(P<0.01), whose grip strength declines sharply compared with that in 2005. Forthe one foot stand, the average of the urban elderly is higher than that of the ruralelderly, who take much longer compared with they did in 2005(P<0.01). for thechoice reaction time, there is a big difference between the urban elderly and therural elderly(P<0.01). Most of the urban elderly declines in body anteflexion whensitting(P<0.01)、(P<0.05), especially the rural elderly.Research conclusions:1)Based on the physique evaluation standards laid down by State Physical CulturalAdministration, the physique qualified rate of the elderly in Shanxi Province 2010 islower than that in 2005.2)The weight of the elderly in Shanxi Province shows a rising trend with thegrowth of the age; The overweight rate and obesity rate is over 55% and obesity groupis to 12-21%, which is increased significantly compared with that in 2005.3)The quiet pulse of the rural elderly in Shanxi Province is higher than the urbanelderly, the lung capacity of them is lower; Compared with that in 2005, and there is nosignificant difference.4)The grip strength of the urban elderly is larger than that of the rural elderly,whose grip strength shows an apparent decline since 2005. Only some rural elderlydeclines in body anteflexion when sitting since 2005. 5)In 2010 the urban elderly takes more time for the one foot stand than the ruralelderly. There is also a significant difference in the choice reaction time between theurban and rural elderly, that is, the choice reaction time for the rural elderly increasesmarkedly.
