The teaching of English grammar plays an important role in the English teaching of seniormiddle school. It has great significance for the current high school students to learn grammarwell, whether it is on learning a language or in response to the current entrance examination. Therefore, how to teach English well is an important task for the high school teachers. In the domain of second language acquisition, input approach always is a hot topic for thesecond language acquisition researchers or language educators, it is also an important theory inguiding the language teaching. Krashen’s input theory points out that language is the tool forcommunication, the input of the language must be understandable and interesting. If the leanercan’t understand what he gets, he can’t acquire the language essentially. In other words, theincomprehensible input is a kind of “noise” for the learners. The research of input theoryinvolves listening, spoken, reading and writing and so on, However, there is little research ongrammar teaching, especially on the high school. Therefore, this paper wants to study that if it isfeasible to teach the high school students English grammar in the total English environment inthe support of input theory, If it is unfeasible, what problems does it have and how to solve it.This paper uses the case study,100students take part in the experiment, the number of thetwo classes is same and the level is equal, the experiment finishes in3lessons, the contents ofthe lessons is subjunctive, the experimental class learns this grammar in the total Englishenvironment, the control class uses the mother language properly. The collection of dataachieves through the survey and pre-post and post-test. The data shows that the advantage of theexperimental class is not clear in relative to the control class. The experiment gets a conclusion: there is not significant help in improving the high schoolstudents grammar ability in the total English environment. I think that the high school teachersshould provide sufficient understandable materials and adopt the bilingual teaching methods ingrammar teaching. This paper talks about the necessary of using Chinese in grammar teaching inhigh school on the basis of linguistic achievement and teaching practice.
