British women’s higher education sprout from the latter half of the nineteenth century and the development has already gone through the course of more than a century. British social, economic, educational, cultural traditions, and together they created the history of British women’s higher. Throughout the development of British women’s higher, which is full of twists and turns and difficult. From a historical review beginning in the development of specific performance and a different social background, the development of British higher education for women is divided into three periods. In infancy, the pioneers of British women’s higher founded two well-known women’s college and British universities open the door to women,but during this period women do not have the same level of higher education rights with men After that, British women’s higher has ushered in a tortuous process of development, this period is the slow development, but still made some encouraging progress. Since the1960s, under the influence of Feminist, along with the rapid development of the whole of British higher education, British women’s higher was finally ushered in a period of rapid development. But there have been some problems in women’s higher education. Combing through the context of the development of higher education for women, summed up the four most important aspects in development process:the problem of educational opportunities, professional choices, employment issues and the development of women’s college. Education opportunities exist in the early development process, by social class, family, economic conditions and other aspects of the impact. Female students in the professional choice has always been a significant gender preference, and this problem still exists in the development process. Employment of Women in the focus of attention in recent years, although the British women’s higher did not a good solution to this problem, there are still some positive measures that we can learn. Women’s college play a key role in the British women’s higher development, and now have to face the challenges of co-educational education, start a new reform.The development of the Women’s British higher education has achieved some success, but there are still some shortcomings worthy of reflection. This article in the comprehensive analysis of the strengths and weaknesses, summed up the experience in the development of British women’s higher, compare with the development of China’s higher education for women, directed towards the problem, propose a number of advices. First,establish a Women’s University or University-affiliated women’s college, play to their strengths, formed its own characteristics, train outstanding female and provide one more option for the majority of women receive higher education. Secondly, to increase women’s higher education legislation, to improve and implement the right to protection of women’s access to higher education. Thirdly, on the issue of employment, female students need more attention, make more employment opportunities for female students. In addition, pay attention to those girls with difficult family conditions, the full implementation of the subsidy policy to help poor female students. Face the problem of universities mostly allocated educational resources with male-oriented, recommended that colleges and universities related reforms to improve the gender distribution of the structure of the disciplines, focusing on gender differences, and to explore the potential of women. Finally, enhance the women sense of independence, help women understand their own objective to abandon the traditional concept, establish the concept of the modern women.
