Enrollment&examination system in Britain has a long history,distinctive features and a unique manner. It has been gradually perfected aftercenturies of development and evolvement. In1970s, higher education in Britainstarted transforming itself from elite-orientation to popularization; gross enrollmentrate of higher education increased from15%to50%from1970to2010. Starting from2003, the gross enrollment rate of higher education in China had reached15%,indicating the beginning of popularization, and is expected to reach40%in2020. Inorder to successfully accomplish this objective, higher education in China isconstantly reforming and developing. As the key and difficult point, the highereducation enrollment&examination system has important influences on theschooling quality of higher education in China. Therefore, the reform of collegeenrollment&examination system in Britain has a great reference significance forChina.This article mainly centers on the higher education enrollment&examinationsystem in Britain, specifically on the higher education enrollment&examinationsystem in Britain after1970s to conduct research, with adoption of data studies, casestudies, comparative study method and theoretical approach. There are four chaptersincluded in the article: Chapter one is the introduction which discusses from the causeof topic selection and the sense of research, puts forward relevant questions andanalyzes the status quo of the research, defines related concepts, and illustratesresearch strategies and approaches. Chapter two is divided into five sections todescribe traditions of higher education enrollment&examination system in Britain.Firstly, it reviews the origin of early selective examination system in Britain; secondly,after socially acknowledged, selective examination system became widelyimplemented, and examination system of civil officers emerged on the basis of it. Thirdly, it explores the development of college entrance examination, and analyzes itin combination of social situation of the time from its rise to its fall; fourthly, with theconstant reform and enhancement of enrollment&examination system in Britain,higher education enrollment&examination system of certificate-type emerged as thetime required. Lastly, it summarizes traditional rules of higher education enrollment&examination system in Britain. Chapter three analyzes reforms during the newvocationalism movement period, and the “double-track system” and “triple-tracksystem” of higher education period from the standpoint of reform backgrounds,reform courses, reform contents and reform objectives. Chapter four conductscomparative analysis on higher education enrollment&examination systems in Chinaand Britain in terms of administration, responsible institutes and assessment criteria.Chapter five concludes the enlightenment through the discussion of higher educationenrollment&examination systems in China and Britain in every regard, which is:establishing service system for higher education enrollment&examination systemunder the dominance of government; developing a group of professionals in the fieldof enrollment&examination; establishing a fair higher education entrance system aswell as an enrollment mode which combines test scores together with comprehensiveevaluation.The development of higher education enrollment&examination system in Chinais a gradual process, it has to be based on current status and combined with nationalconditions, with successful reforming experiences learned from other countries, onlyby that can it embark on a correct path to reform.
