Since the1980s, China’s sex ratio at birth began to high and rised rapidly in these years.Comparing with the national situation, the sex ratio at birth in Anhui Province was higher than the national average, and even became one of the few provinces that the sex ratio at birth was seriouser than the national sex ratio at birth. In the year of1982the third national census showed that Anhui Province’s sex ratio at birth was112.45, It was overtake the normal range and become the first in the country; the fifth census in2000showed that Anhui Province’s born sex ratio was129.43, It was in a serious high state; the sixth National Census showed that the sex ratio at birth of Anhui Province was128.6, It was higher than the national10percent. Sex Ratio at Birth is the concentrated reflection of the gender preference, so if gender preference does not attach importance, It will take a gender imbalance in the structure of the population, and leading to a serious demographic security issues.At present, many scholars have already analied the reasons of gender preference from the aspects of culture, values and system. It has already achieved many fruitful results. On the basis of existing research, It believes that children cost-utility theory is also suitable for analysising the current phenomenon of gender preference. It showing that the family is the rational economic man, people pursuit the maximization o interests in the reproductive behavior, family size is determined by the choice of parents having children, and parents of children the choice depends on the child’s expectations the cost and effectiveness.This study takes a small village in Huoqiu County for example, then analysis the situation of gender preference in rural areas and try to explore the impact that child cost-effectiveness of fanners ’fertility preferences, At last, trying to propose some measures and proposals to weaken the farmers’preference for boys.The thesis is made up of the following five parts.The first part is to illustrate the background of this research, to put forward research methods and to make a literary review.The second part is to introduce the child’s costs and effects theory to guide research, and to differentiate and analyse the important concepts.The third part is to collect Statistical Yearbook data and analyse the gender preference of children on farmers in Anhui Province. It found that boys gender preference in Anhui Province is deepening, and the form of the sex ratio at birth continues to rise. Meanwhile, the gender preference of the farmers in Anhui Province also has inferior characteristics of the time, space, geography. At last, we learn the development trend of gender preference in Anhui Province.The fourth part is under the guidance of the child cost-utility theory, then,to use quantitative research and qualitative research methods, comparative analysis the cost and effective of the children of a S village in Anhui. It found that the presence of S Village farmers preference for sons, regardless of the boy’s direct and indirect costs must be higher han girls. On the usefulness of the effectiveness of the pension and family of the boy’s marriage is always higher than girls in some other aspects of the utility, both utility is not much difference.The fifth part is to put forward the methods of weakening son preference of peasants in Anhui rural areas based on the child’s costs and effects theory and summaries ofresearch results.
