The Features Of Gaining And Losing Points Of Three Elite Chinese Pen-hold Table Tennis Player

On the base of previous researches, this paper has employed the method of literature review, video observation and the method of statistics to study three Chinese elite pen-hold table tennis players:Ma Lin, Wang Hao and Xu Xin; summarizing the techniques and tactics used by those three players in important international games from2009to2011. Through video observation and making statistical summaries, the author aims to find out the features on how those players earn points and what traits do they have when they lose points form three different angles:the combination of techniques, combination of directions and the combination of ball locations. The conclusions are as follows:1. Ma LinHe holds a huge advantage in service; controlling is the key for him to return the opponent’s service; He has a high tendency of attacking after service, having a high rate of making mistakes when controlling after service;When dealing with the second and the forth strike, Ma Lin has the tendency to attack after restraining or to control his opponent constantly, he usually gets bad results when restraining-after-attacking; Ma Lin has the disadvantage in his backhand technique, which usually puts him in a passive situation when play rallies.2. Wang HaoThe technology of Wanghao is overall;attacking is the key for him to return the opponent’s service, the most frequent tactic among them used by him is to flip; He has a high tendency of attacking after service, having a high rate of losing points when controlling after service; Wang Hao also likes to restrain his opponent or constant attack during his second and forth strike, Meanwhile, Wang Hao has a bad command of the tactic "attacking after restraining" and "controlling constantly" Wang Hao is a master of return a loop with back-hand loop strike which enables him to have an advantage when one points is earned by many rallies, an ability which other pen-hold players usually lack of.3. Xu XinHe tends to attack than restrain when return a service, but high rate of losing points when attacking; He also likes to attack after service, having a high rate of making mistake when controlling after service;The tactics during his second and forth strike is ineffective, the hightest tendency tactics is restraining or controlling constantly, and he usually gets bad results when restraining-after-attacking after restraining or to control his opponent constantly; Once He is caught in the situation of transition from attack to defend, or he is forced to play rally, he is the one who usually is oppressed. At this point, he needs to improve.
