Western Culture And Tacit Communication In English Textbooks

With the arrival of globalization, exchange between Chinese and western culture becomes increasing. In order to adapt to the international competition, more and more persons in China are learning English.As a result, English textbooks become more and more important. Besides carrying language information, English textbooks carry cultural information. In the English textbooks, there are many western articles. These articles carry western information and western cultural values, which play an important role in language learning.This paper takes three different English textbooks as the research object, clears up the western information and western cultural values, and finds out the influence to language learners.The first part is introduction, which describes the study reason and content.The second part introduces the basic information about English textbooks.The third chapter analyzes the western cultural information in English textbooks, including the character, regional distribution and the language features.The fourth chapter focuses on the western cultural values in high school English textbooks, including heroism, view of nature and view on money.The last chapter analyses the western cultural values in high school English textbooks, thinking about how to treat western culture and how to display a whole world in the textbooks.
