Errors are unavoidable in second-language acquisition, thuscorrection of errors and second-language acquisition is closely related. While learning, theories and application of hypothetical correction oferrors plays an important role. Input precedes output, outputsupplements input. Hypothetical testing function makes learners modifytheir output. The study on learner errors has been carried out since the1950s and it has undergone stages such as Contrastive Analysis, ErrorAnalysis, Inter-language Analysis, Input Hypothesis and OutputHypothesis. The theory of error analysis, which focuses mostly on learners, initiated in the1960s and reached its full development till the1970s. It’sof great significance to teachers and students. The strategy of hypothetical correction of errors abroad mainlyfocuses on whether to correct the error, and what, when, how, and bywhom to correct it. And in China researches of hypothetical correctionof errors mostly treat it as a way for the acquisition of English as asecond language. Therefore, analysis of hypothetical correction oferrors about individuals is worth researching.Chapter I is an introduction, dealing with the background, purpose, content and significance of this study, and also the outline ofthe paper.Chapter II is a literature review, focusing on Input Hypothesis andOutput Hypothesis, the definition of errors, the development of theoriesabout error analysis, the significance of studying errors, cognitiveschema and discovery method.Chapter III is an action research, in which the author introducesthe survey and research on62Junior Three students. The surveyindicates that half of the students commit the same error over andagain in different tests, and a few of them can analyze their errors themselves. Thus to cultivate the students’ awareness of hypotheticalcorrection of grammar errors is of great importance.Chapter IV makes a data analysis and arrives at a conclusionthat students’ awareness of hypothetical correction of grammar errorscan be cultivated; meanwhile, it also has a great impact on students’study of grammar. Students are motivated to explore and solvegrammar problems themselves to have a better understanding oflanguage structure. At the same time, students’ awareness ofhypothetical correction of grammar errors also inspires teachers a lot.Teaching suggestions are also offered in this part.
