International association of the modern society is becoming moreand more frequent; English became the important tool ofcommunication. So more and more countries pay attention to Englisheducation. And in English teaching, teaching material plays a key role.It is the student to obtain knowledge as the main source of teachersteaching and the main basis. Shanghai as an international metropolis,in order to develop the multi-level and specifications English talents,and to enhance the quality of the English teaching in Shanghai,Shanghai in recent years in the reform of English teaching materials.With and Shanghai similar cultural background and economiccondition of Hong Kong, and the English curriculum reform has beenwalking in Asia front row. And special political background made HongKong the program in eastern and western culture, based on theintegration of local actual accepted the curriculum has accumulatedmany successful experience. Therefore, the analysis of Hong Kongprimary school English teaching material has great practicalsignificance in improving Shanghai primary school English teaching. Inthis paper, author chooses the Magic of Hong Kong elementary schooltextbooks for research object, and applied method of documentaryreference, case study and statistical method.Analysis includes four aspects: the overall structure, main task,multicultural penetration, and pragmatic text. Through analysis, thepaper sums up a few characteristics about Magic:teaching material iscoherence; teaching material is innovative; teaching material is rich inpracticality;Chinese and foreign cultural permeating equilibrium;textvarious in form;teaching material embodies the spirit of The Times life;teaching material reflects the students as the center. Based on these,author offers three suggestions relatively. Firstly,paying attention to the design of the task activities, to develop thestudents creative thinking. Secondly, increasing the type of text, usingmore text that be closed to the times. Thirdly, increasing multiculturalpenetration, especially in Shanghai native culture.
