In the new English Curriculum Standard,“stimulating the interest,building the confidence and improving the learner’s autonomy inEnglish learning” has been set as goals of Junior English teaching. Torealize such goals, how to improve learner’s autonomy and to adoptappropriate teaching models for students have become the majorissues to be studied. However, in most English classroom situations, theteacher-centered, instead of student-centered instruction models arestill prevalent. So when students do some challengeable assessmentthere is no autonomy, but only controlled by their teachers. Based on allof these, this paper focuses on studying students’ learning autonomy,and aims to find a more efficient model to develop students’ autonomy.Here the author proposes the procedural negotiation languageteaching method.Autonomous learning is a hot topic in foreign language teachingfield in recent years. In the curriculum field, to develop students’learning autonomy is one of the significant goals. Autonomous learningcan be seen as a model of teaching and a method of learning.Nowadays, possessing learning autonomy is the basis for students’lifelong learning and lifelong development. There are also problemssuch as:1) too much of similar researches;2) insufficient research depthand extent;3) imbalance of the current researches’ focuses.In this paper, the first chapter is the introduction chapter. Thesecond chapter provides a literature review of learning autonomyincluding definitions and their theoretical bases, the necessity topractice a new teaching model---Negotiation-based LanguageTeaching Model, etc.. In the third chapter, details of NegotiationLanguage Teaching Model are introduced and the procedurals ofpracticing it. The fourth chapter describes an experimental research on carrying out negotiation language teaching model in classroom. Thefifth chapter concludes the whole paper. The innovation of this paper istrying to find the best point to connect autonomous learning withprocedural language teaching.
