With the concept of lifetime learning slowly filtering into people’s minds, how to break through the region, space and time limit with information technology to assist teachers’professional development has become focus issue in the field of continuation education. Teachers not only need to self-study, training, practice and reflection, but also need to form cooperative environment and culture among themselves. Owing to the strong support of teachers’in-service professional development, virtual community of practice (VCoP) has become a good way to realize teachers’professional development. VCoP is the network continuation of learning community and it is an interactive and collaborative learning group that is made up of members (including experts, facilitators, etc.)with the common topic or goal. The members of VCoP use network as communication carrier to discuss a commom theme and achieve knowledge sharing and innovation jointly by the way of online communication. The reasearch task of VCoP is not to provide a set of universal design model, but to reasearch how to cultivate VCoP effectively according to different requirements.College student advisers are special teachers who are acting as both managers and educators. In the area of professional development, college student advisers are always in the marginalized status of disciplinary faculties. They are required to increase their professional level with the development of the epoch and the needs of work. VCoP is also suitable for college student advisers’professional development.Ecological theory provides us a new angle to research VCoP. It has the same characters that are diversity, coevolution, systematicness, situational suitability and self-organization as VCoP. So VCoP is an education ecosystem. It takes network supporting environment as a part of community. The community members are both producers and consumers. The network administrators are taken as disintegrators. According to the lifecycle of community, the thesis tries to discuss the characteristics of birth period, mature period and dying period. Then, the thesis researches cultivation principles and strategy of VCoP in birth period and mature period. Researching cultivation strategy is one of the focal points of this thesis. On the basis of investigating college student advisers’work characteristics and e-learning styles, the author put forwards three cultivation principles. Firstly, we should organize members of VCoP and build mutual relationship. Secondly, we should collect usefull resource. At last, we should design study subject and task based on practical activity. Researching maintenance strategy is the other focal points of this thesis. It is very important to maintain relationship among members and to keep up with members’ needs. The author research maintenance strategy from two hands. One is establishing cooperation, sharefull and belonging group culture. Another is designing reasonable evaluation criterion.At last, under the guidance of the principles and strategy and according to the college student advisers’job demands, the author set up network platform which is suitable for college student advisers to cultivate VcoP by the way of NetBox, Dreamweaver and Acess.
