A Research On The Relation Among College Students’ Sense Of Gratitude,Parenting Style, Social Support

Marx said:"Human nature is not a single individual abstraction inherent. In its reality, it is the sum of all social relations." Everyone engaged in social practice activity in the certain social relation. In all kinds of social relationships, one’s interpersonal relationship is composed by parents, friends, teachers and students. Individual grew up in this objective and realistic interpersonal relationship, set up one’s own life attitude and value judgment, and set up their own conception on life and the view of the world.Gratitude is not only a kind of moral sentiment, but also an active psychologically response to social relations. According to the development trajectory of psychology, one may have the corresponding emotions and feelings when perceiving other people’s kindness, and then practice some thankful actions. Gratitude is on the cognitive level, while the thankful actions are belong to behavior. No sense of gratitude, no act of gratitude. The sense of gratitude shows that university students have a correct understanding about their social relations with others, and also shows their gratitude to others is a sense of responsibility influenced by this understanding.However, the moral level are declined in some areas in current society, it has a serious negative effect on the development of college students’ sense of gratitude, and affected some students view of gratitude. It is not only debased the quality of college education, but also badly influenced to the development of the society. On the basis of previous studies, the questionnaire investigation method was used in this research. Total762college students were investigated, they all came from the following five universities, Shaanxi Normal University, Xidian University, Northwest University of Politics&Law, Xi’an University of Post and Telecommunications and Xi’an Shiyou University. The sense of gratitude of college student’s was investigated, and the relations of gratitude and parenting style and social support were discussed. The results show that:1、In general, most college students have a high level of sense of gratitude, but some college students have a low level.2、It is significant difference in the level of college students’ sense of gratitude in gender, grade, disciplines, source of the students, only child or not, fathers’career and family income. It is not significant differences in mothers’ career, age and parents’ cultural degree.3、Two elements can significant positively predict on students’ sense of gratitude, which are parents’ emotional warmth and understanding. The following elements may significant negative predict on students’ sense of gratitude, they are punishment, harshness, rejection and denial. There is no different between mothers’emotional warmth and understanding.4、The three factors of social support which are objective support and subjective support and utilization of support can significant positively predict on the depth, breadth and density of students’ sense of gratitude.According to the investigation result, some practical ways were suggested in this paper. First, parents can improve their parental behavior by setting a good example, training responsibility and transform the old parental concept, try to strengthen the basis for cultivating sense of gratitude. Second, a good social support environment and various campus cultural environments should be created in the universities; and some innovative ideological ways can be used in political course teaching; gratitude education can be combined with social practice activity.
