With the development of online courses, more and more people pay attention to the quality of Web-based course, for example, is the teaching effective? How about the effect of student learning through the network? Currently, students’evaluation uses the form of a combination of formative assessment and summative evaluation in our country Web-based course. However there are many problems in the actual evaluation process, especially in the formative evaluation, the evaluation methods mostly borrowed from the traditional teaching methods about formative evaluation, for example, based on the students’usual test, homework, and participate in learning activities. These methods did not play the role of formative evaluation, and that is "evaluation is not to prove but to improve". Compare with traditional classroom environment to learn, students through the learning of the network environment is easier to collect some information of students in the learning process, such as student registration information, each of online learning time, the progress of the learning process, discuss information. But now information did not fully use to evaluate the process of students learning, and to offer timely feedback to students.Data mining is a technology of "the process of from a large number of incomplete, noisy, fuzzy, random data, to extract useful information and knowledge which is hidden in these data." Now the technology has been successfully applied in business management, marketing sale, medical and health fields, but in the field of education has not been get more attention. And in many data mining software, SPSS Clementine software is the software which applied in some fields.Therefore, this article is mainly through SPSS Clementine to find some useful information for formative evaluation of students’learning process in "College English B", from the dimensionalities of students’learn style, learning attitude and learning effect. And use JAVA programming language to achieve a management system of formative evaluative information in network learning. The system will help the teacher and learners to manage these information and according to the result of evaluation to offer the timely evaluation feedback and some suggestions to help students continue improve in follow-up learning, and to get better learning outcomes, to come true the role the formative evaluation, to play the advantage of online learning compare to traditional classroom teaching.
